Greece : Santorini

For sea kayaking the Greek Waters are ideal. The water is warm and clear.
The islands of the Cyclades are at paddle distances (5 - 25 km) apart. Paros, Naxos, Ios, Ikaria and the small Cyclades are worthwile visiting. Mykonos, Tinos and Andros are less interesting.
The most interesting island is without doubt Santorini.
Santorini is a volcanic island with a diameter of 10 km.  The crater is connected to the sea.
Paddling the inner coastline is a spectacular experience.

* Santorini
paddling the inner circle is a beatiful experience (here below Fira).

The East side
of the volcano is heavily eroded. Hundred meter cross section shows an interesting geological history.

* Thira
is the capital of the island Santorini. Tourists disembark large cruise ships to visit the city built at the edge of the volcano (the caldera).

The black sand of the beaches reflects the volcanic nature of the island. After a short visit we head for a more abandoned places.

* Ia
lies in the north of Santorini. It is even more beautiful than Thira because of its traditional white houses and quite atmosphere.
